Seen in real life this bear comes to life and is imbued with the Huichol connection to the spirit world. Many circular peyote cover this piece. The peyote, called ‘jicuri’, is used in ceremonies as sacred medicine, allowing connection with the spirit world, deities and ancestors. It symbolizes good luck, life, health and success. There are full-bodied deer on either side and a deer head lays underneath the chin. They represent Kauyumari, who leads the shamans on their visionary pathways and teaches them how to gain their special knowledge. A green double headed eagle on the bear’s rump. I represents the Shaman’s omnipotent power and ability to see in all directions.
